As the Portfolio Holder for Recycling and Sustainability in Shrewsbury and Atcham, I’m delighted to see such active citizenship amongst the community. A great effort by many volunteers has gone into ensuring that the advice in this guide will inspire all of us to protect our environment. The Council believes that the number one priority for the future development of Shrewsbury is ‘environmental excellence’ and so we are delighted to see a publication which gives practical advice on reducing pollution, greening your garden, producing less waste and supporting local businesses. As a Council we constantly strive to boost recycling and win national recognition for the town’s horticultural efforts. But we need the public on board too. If everyone did the important things like composting, turning off unneeded lights and buying local food, the overall effect would be colossal. I think we all have a role to play in doing our bit to ensure that Shrewsbury’s environment is recognised nationally as excellent. So please follow the advice in this booklet.
